1. They own and use a planner
Owning and using a planner is an amazing way to stay organized! Whether they are booked and busy or not, there is a benefit to keep a running list of what you’ll need to do everyday.
If you’re ever unsure of what to use a planner for, here are great organizational purposes:
- Keeping a running to do list
- Writing down your appointments or meetings
- Knowing when bills or things are due
- Remembering important days of the month
Having a planner allows you to stay organized and keep track of all of these items and then some!
My consistent use of a planner or calendar has made me much more organized. I am never running late, never forgetting birthdays, and I always have my tasks done on time.
This is a great organized habit many people live by to keep their life more organized!
2. They make their bed every morning
Although this one seems like a small yet tedious task, it is still important.
I have heard so many people say that they don’t see the point in making their bed as they get right back into it anyway. However, making your bed will avoid any habits of getting into bed during the day.
Making our bed every morning teaches us structure and helps us build habits.
With that said, that is not all it’s good for! While making your bed every morning keeps our day structured, it also helps keep our rooms organized and put together. It is a quick and simple task to start your day with success.

3. They write down their goals
Organized people write down their goals like it’s a to-do list! Goal setting is something all organized people likely live by.
It is not just as simple as wanting to achieve something, but making sure it happens.
Writing your goals helps you hold yourself accountable a little more than if we just remember we want to do something.
So, not only does this help keep us organized, but it helps us stay true to our promises we made ourselves.
4. They keep a general routine
A habit organized people live by is always keeping a routine. Having a reliable schedule is important as someone who is trying to be more organized.
However, sometimes knowing what is going to go on with your day can be difficult to predict.
An example of a great routine that works for many organized people is having an idea of what you want to do and when and being consistent.
So, if that is getting the gym out of the way in your mornings or meal prepping on Sundays so you can cut out food prep time during lunch, these are great habits to work on to feel more organized.
5. They have things in a designated place
Organized people keep things where they belong. This avoids clutter and it is generally super easy to keep up.
For example, many organized people like to organize their fridge using food storage organizers.
Something I personally like to do is color coordinate my wardrobe! This helps when I am running late and need to find a specific shirt. I know what order it will be in and where the color belongs!
However, more simple versions could be making sure all your shirts are in one draw, your gym attire in another, and so on and so forth. It is also super easy to organize with closet organizers as well.
Having things in a designated place will make everything easier to find, plus, you will be much more organized!
6. They finish what they started
A part of being organized is finishing what was set out to be done. When tasks are left unoccupied it can cause life to get less organized and all over the place.
This can tie into the prior habits such as writing lists and goals to ensure things are completed!
7. They give themselves deadlines
Deadlines are a great way to stay organized! Knowing what you need to do and when it needs to be done by is crucial to keeping organized.
If you’re someone who constantly has something on your plate, it will help to have structured deadlines for yourself. This way, rather than working on everything at once, potentially delaying items, you can take it one thing at a time!
8. They prepare for everything
Preparation is such a key habit to becoming more organized! Although predicting the future is not always realistic, preparing as much as you can will make the future easier and more organized.
For example, if you have a presentation at work, preparing for that as well as practicing what questions you may get will help with your organization.
So, even if it is as simple as having an outfit laid out for the next morning or as complex as a presentation at work, this is a key way to stay organized.
